Advanced Multi-Map & Switch Map ECU Course

Master multi-map switching and custom ECU logic with reverse engineering, WinOLS, Ghidra and assembly - an advanced remapping course for experienced tuners.

This is the deep end of ECU development. Most tuning stops at editing the maps the manufacturer already built. This course teaches the part of the job few tuners reach: adding new functions to the controller itself.

Multi-map and switch-map systems let a single ECU hold several complete calibrations and move between them on demand -for example a 92-octane daily map, a 98-octane track map and a valet mode - without reflashing the car. Building that means changing the controller's execution logic, not just its data tables.

Across ten lectures you move from calibrator to developer: reading the ECU memory and torque model, decoding the manufacturer's logic with DAMOS and A2L, disassembling binaries in Ghidra and IDA Pro, writing the assembly that makes the switch, and validating the result so the engine stays protected.

The techniques are taught on the platforms that use them most - Tricore-based Bosch MED17 and MG1, and Continental Simos 18 on the VAG MQB platform.

This is advanced, hands-on engineering. Read "Who This Course Is For" below before you apply.

    Who This Course Is For

This is an advanced course. It assumes you already tune confidently and want to build custom logic - not learn the basics. The lectures start where most tuning training ends.

It is built for you if you:

    •         Have completed our advanced remapping stages, or hold equivalent training from elsewhere

    •         Are fully comfortable with everyday remapping: reading and writing ECUs, editing maps, and checksum correction

    •         Have real hands-on time in WinOLS with genuine project files

    •         Understand torque-based control and OEM map structures at a working level

It is not an entry point. If you are new to remapping, or still working through Stage 1 and Stage 2 map editing, this material will not make sense yet - start with our foundation and advanced courses first and come back when you are ready.

Because of the level, enrolment is reviewed individually. Every applicant completes a short readiness assessment before paying, so you only enrol once we both know the course is a fit. See How To Enrol below.

    What is switch-map (map switching)?

A switch map lets the ECU move between different calibration sets based on an input or a condition - for example a cruise-control button, an RPM threshold, or pedal position. It is the simplest form of multi-map functionality: one trigger, one change.

    What is multi-map (multi-calibration strategy)?

Multi-map goes further. Several complete calibration profiles live inside the ECU at once, and the controller selects between them from its own logic - an Eco profile, a Sport profile, a Race profile - rather than from a single user button.

Why implement this on Bosch and Continental systems?

Modern performance ECUs manage everything from torque models to exhaust-flap logic. Multi-map lets you make on-the-fly changes - boost targets, throttle behaviour, map selection - without reflashing the car each time. That matters on platforms where fuel quality and conditions change often.

Which ECU generations fit these techniques?

The real power of multi-map lives on Tricore-based units - Bosch EDC17 and MED17 and the newer MG1 series, plus Continental Simos 18 on VAG MQB. These processors have the spare memory regions ("code caves") and high-speed RAM needed to host custom logic and track switching triggers in real time.

What is the role of reverse engineering?

Standard tuning changes existing maps. This course creates new functions. Using Ghidra and IDA Pro, you disassemble the binary, find the point where the ECU decides which map to read, and redirect that decision to your own logic.

    Why Train With Schiller Tuning

Taught by working ECU developers. This course is written and delivered by the Schiller Tuning team - ECU tuners based in Muscat, Oman who produce engineer-reviewed tuning files and train tuners worldwide.

Results you can check. Our work is documented through real-world dyno logs, AFR readings and student project files, and we keep that evidence public.

Backed by the same promise as our files. Every engineer-reviewed tuning file we produce carries a 30-day warranty. The same standard of review and support runs through this course.

Students so far: developers trained across our course range.

    Responsible use and legality

This course teaches ECU engineering as a skill. It does not promise a specific power gain for any vehicle, and it does not promise income or employment.

Modifying an ECU can affect your emissions compliance, insurance and manufacturer warranty, and some changes are for closed-course or off-road use only. Road-legality depends on your vehicle and your country, and that responsibility stays with you. We label off-road techniques as off-road and expect students to tune within the law where they live.

    How To Enrol

Enrolment is reviewed, not instant. Because this is an advanced course, we confirm every student is ready before they pay — so your time and money go into building, not catching up.
